Foreign Soldier
(Soldado estrangeiro)
José Jofilly, Pedro Rossi | Documentary
2019 | 83 minutes | Brazil
A war documentary in which cameras and weapons merge to talk about young Brazilians so eager for war that they leave their now peaceful country to find it.
Synopsis
Brazil is not currently involved in any war, but some of its young people are choosing to fight far from home. For a few days, Soldado Estrangeiro follows Brazilians enlisted in the armies of other countries or in mercenary forces. What lies behind these motivations: the desire to make the world a better place, the opportunity to participate in important world events, the need for adventure? Understanding all the contradictions inherent in their decision is undoubtedly a complicated task, but it is also a way of understanding contemporary Brazil.
