Grissinopoli
(Grissinópoli)
Darío Doria | Documentary
2004 | 80 minutes | Argentina
When a bread stick company is abandoned by its owners due to bankruptcy, its sixteen workers make up their minds to occupy, live, and resist to save the company.
Synopsis
Indebted and in bankruptcy, the bread stick company "Grissinópoli" is abandoned by its owners. Despite this fact, its sixteen workers make up their minds to occupy, live and resist in their working posts in an attempt to prevent the company from disappearing. By forming a particular co-operative, they try to keep the factory in motion by their own means, but this desperate and utopian response to the increasing unemployment is not an easy way out.
Having precarious scholastic achievement - not even Elementary School completed for many of them - these workers have to face lawyers and legislators in order to get an Expropriation Law, that might turn things to their favour, passed. In a short while, daily life, the fear of dislodging, the lack of money and their inexperience to manage a company will complicate things even more.
Reviews
""Grissinopoli" is interesting and moving because it shows the real faces of a problem that is often talked about a lot, but in a generic and impersonal way." - Fernando López, La Nacion
