Che Guevara was a key figure in the Cuban Revolution. Captured in Bolivia and executed, he remains a global icon of resistance and anti-imperialism
Synopsis
Ernesto "Che" Guevara (June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967) was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, guerrilla leader, and key figure in the Cuban Revolution. Born in Rosario, Argentina, he studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires but became politically active after witnessing poverty and injustice during travels across Latin America. In 1955, he joined Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement in Mexico and played a pivotal role in overthrowing Cuba's U.S.-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista through guerrilla warfare.
After the revolution's success in 1959, Guevara held significant roles in Cuba's government, overseeing land reforms, leading industrial initiatives, and representing Cuba internationally. He later sought to spread revolutionary movements globally but faced setbacks. Captured by CIA-assisted Bolivian forces, Guevara was executed on October 9, 1967. He remains a global icon of resistance, though his legacy is debated due to his controversial methods.
